Shehani De Silva and Sue Drummond travelled to Canberra during
Mental Health week to deliver training for a group of mental health
practitioners and interpreters around working together in mental health
settings. The training served the dual purpose of allowing mental health
practitioners and interpreters to network and discuss strategies to improve
working together, as well as receiving training in culturally responsive mental
health practice.
The event allowed VTMH staff to listen to some of the
challenges, as well as the positive experiences these practitioners have had,
in working together in interpreted encounters. This information will inform the
development of training and resources within the unit.
